Thinking N Rethinking

It’s now time to think on what all items you would require in your website. Say for e.g. you are already running a kid store and now you wish to go online – for more orders, easy access and extend customers reach. So, an ecommerce website is what you need.

Questions that could make you think

• For a kid store, what sort of colors, themes, logo, pictures to be used? To get ideas, refer other kid store websites by searching in Google. For good pictures, you can get free royalty /paid images from GettyImages.com, Corbis.com, IStockPhoto.com, sxc.hu and some others.
• How to categorize all items that I sell? List out all items and categorized based on color, brand, size, types, price etc. This will help in designing categories & subcategories of your products and even for product search box.
• Should ready made shopping cart software or a custom one to be used? Which payment gateway & what all payment options should I go for? Answer to these questions purely depends upon your business needs. Discuss this with your software vendor.
• Do your customers need to see orders history? If yes, then you should have customer login & my account facility, where by customers can login and see all past & current order details, add to favorites list etc. If no, just capture order, personal & payment details of your customer at the time of purchase.
