Understanding Search Engine
Let’s try to understand what exactly search engine is. Search Engines are automated computer programs that help to search information available on the internet. In order to perform any search, keywords or key-phrases are entered into search box of search engine. In return, search displays matching & related web pages in just no time.
Search engines make use of Crawlers/Bots/Robots (a specially designed computer program) that scans www for newer websites and existing websites for fresh or updated content/pages. All this data is updated to search engine’s database that holds information about websites.
Apart from search engines, there are meta search engines too. It’s again a special type of search engine that queries the database of well known search engines and directories and displays resulted web pages from those under its search results. Some of the popular meta search engines are Metacrawler, WebCrawler, Excite, IxQuick, Dogpile etc.
