Difference between a Search Engine and Directory

When you are on some search engines, you will find a link to directory, knowingly called as web directory for that search engine. Popular search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN etc have their own web directory. Now, web directory is also a database of websites, organized under categories and sub categories. Then what’s the difference between a search engine and directory. Below are the points that differentiate between them. 

  • WebPages are located automatically by search engine, with the help of bots whereas in case of directory, visitors submit their website link, which is in turn reviewed by humans for website acceptance.
